An introduction to Brian Stewarts’s artwork:
Brian is a retired marine biologist living in Dunedin. He enjoys exploring light, colour and perspective. Subject matter varies widely from colourful geometric abstracts to more mundane scenes with an emphasis on realism. Unusual subjects that are easily overlooked in day–to-day life, often end up as subject matter. Brian’s paintings occasionally contain cryptic messages or are ambiguous, a legacy of early influences by Dali and Magritte.
Sue Lean introduces her artwork:
In today’s busy world many see without seeing. Art inspires us to look more carefully at our everyday surroundings and to discover the beauty there. When I am painting, the separation of observer and subject begins to dissolve, and I can experience the deep calm in becoming at one with my surroundings. I began early painting in oils, and have stayed with them because of their vibrant colours, fluidity, and the range of textures, from a thin film to thick impasto they allow. Currently I am focusing on landscape, en plen air when the weather permits, but also anything that sparks inspiration at the time: a flower, a cat, people, a still life.
