FCC May. Inner Transformation of a Peacemaker presented by Josh King

This one-day training explores how the inner transformation of a peacemaker forms the essential foundation for authentic, rather than performative, peacebuilding. Participants will engage key themes such as ego, pride, anger, and the experience of failure, examining how these impulses can be transformed into virtues like patience, self-control, compassion, and especially humility—the antidote to epistemological hubris. Drawing from historical ascetic, spiritual, and contemplative traditions, the training will offer practical disciplines and exercises that cultivate clarity of mind and inner fortitude, equipping participants to respond to conflict, harmful encounters, and moments of chaos or trauma with justice and peace.

Throughout the day, we will wrestle with critical questions: How do we prepare ourselves when harm threatens us or those we love? How do we engage “the Other” with integrity and nonviolence? Where should we direct our energy to become effective peacemakers? And how can these spiritual practices be meaningfully integrated into everyday life and real-world conflict situations?
