About this Event
What is it that everyone loves about the look of encaustic painting? Is it the satiny sheen, the luminous layers, the veiled mystery?
Many love the look of encaustic paintings (paintings made with pigment and beeswax), but are not fond of the fumes or the heat and would rather paint using their acrylics.
You don't need special tools, equipment or paints to achieve an encaustic effect using acrylics and acrylic mediums.
In this workshop, you will learn:
- how to get similar effects to real encaustic painting
- to incorporate handmade papers and mark making
- a better understanding of viscosity, transparency, layering, and sheen
- how to build layers that are partially veiled to create depth, history, and mystery
- how to create rich, organic textures
We will be working on 4 miniature-sized wood panels. Students will walk away with a mini set of faux encaustic paintings.
Students will walk away with a finished, one-of-a-kind totem with lots of texture and visual interest, as well as a new understanding of what makes up the Minimalism art style.
