The Sweetwater Singers and the Master Choir of Alexander High School will present a special concert at First United Methodist Church of Douglasville on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at 7:00 pm, featuring Gabriel Fauré’s serene and beloved Requiem alongside contemporary works that reflect themes of peace, homecoming, and gentle transition.Under the direction of Sandra Chandler, artistic director and conductor with over 30 years experience as a choral director, music educator, adjudicator and performing pianist, and with accompaniment from Wayne Gilreath, renowned organist and choir master at Douglasville FUMC, the music will be presented by our 50 member choir who come from Douglas, Carroll, Paulding and Cobb counties.
Unlike many settings of the Requiem text that emphasize drama or judgment, Fauré’s Requiem is noted for its atmosphere of rest, beauty, and quiet radiance. The 35-minute work will be performed with organ, harp, violin, and cello. The Master Choir of Alexander High School will open the program with a pre-concert set and will join the Sweetwater Singers for the performance of the Requiem.
Following the Requiem, the Sweetwater Singers will present a curated program of modern selections that consider death and homegoing not with darkness, but with light, comfort, and hope. Featured works include Dolly Parton’s Light of a Clear Blue Morning, Stephen Paulus’s The Road Home, Susan Brumfield’s No Time, Mack Wilberg’s Saints Bound for Heaven, William Dawson’s Soon I Will Be Done, and John Rutter’s The Lord Bless You and Keep You, among others.
