FATE Beethoven Symphony No. 5

Nothing is more iconic in the symphonic repertoire than the four notes that open Beethoven's Fifth Symphony. An atomic power. On December 10 CSO takes on the voltage for an electrifying rendition of the piece. 

Also in the program Fantasy on a Theme by Beethoven a work written by Canadian-Ukrainian composer Larysa Kuzmenko in 2020. The piece was inspired by Beethoven’s first symphony and the unrequited love story behind Beethoven’s letters to the “Immortal Beloved” represented by the oboe solos. Frank Ho CSO’s concertmaster is the soloist for Beethoven’s Romance No. 1 in G major for violin and orchestra. 

Ho is a staple amongst the Edmonton music community. His performing career as soloist and chamber musician has taken him across three continents. Highlights include concerts at prestigious venues such the Royal Festival Hall and the Purcell Room in London; Weill Recital Hall Alice Tully Hall and Merkin Hall in New York City; and numerous campuses and concert series in western Canada. Many of his concerts have been featured on the CBC. His principal teachers were Evan Verchomin and James Keene (Alberta College Conservatory in Edmonton); Sidney Harth and Erick Friedman (Yale School of Music); and Yfrah Neaman (Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London England)

He will perform the Romance on a violin labeled made by Ignatius Sderci in 1937 (courtesy of Tan Violin Shop) and a bow by Canadian maker Reid Hudson.

The concert will take place on Sunday December 10 at 3:00 p.m at Tegler Centre.
