Fashion Academy Classes

Morning Options

9:00 – 10:30:

• MAKE A STATEMENT – FASHION PUBLISHING & BLOGGING: Explore and create your own personal brand that will be used to develop, write and publish on the Fashion Academy Blog. You will publish your own trend forecasts, styling and insights into fashion. (Limit 14)

• TOP IT OFF –SURFACE DESIGN: Explore surface design techniques such as beading, smocking, stamping, and painting to bring your custom designed top to life. No sewing necessary (Limit 12)

• WHAT IS HOT, WHAT IS NOT– TREND FORECASTING: Ever wonder why everybody is wearing or buying the same thing? It all about following what is happening in music, TV, and the movies...or the art of Trend Forecasting. Learn the "hows and whys" while creating your own forecast for the next big thing. (Limit 16)

• STRUT YOUR STUFF– FASHION MODELING & FASHION SHOW COORDINATION: Learn the ins and outs of the modeling biz and modeling techniques, along with how to put on a fashion show. Class will be responsible for planning and coordinating the student fashion show that takes place Friday afternoon. (Limit 10)

10:30 – 12:00:

• PICTURE THIS – FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY & STYLING: Learn from an industry fashion photographer the do’s and don’ts of studio and outdoor photo shoots. Adobe Photoshop software touch-ups will also be explored. (Limit 12)

• MAKE IT POP –FASHION ACCESSORIES: Learn how to create & sew your own accessories that complement your original designs. Explore different accessories like bags and jewelry, to create one of a kind pieces. (Limit 12)

• MAKE IT WORK – PATTERN ALTERATIONS: Learn how to alter patterns. Students will work with different patterns altering them for personal fit. (Limit 12)

• LET’S GO DIGITAL – INTRO TO FASHION DESIGN WITH CAD: Be on the cutting edge of fashion by learning how to design your own garment using CAD software. This crash course will show you how the experts in fashion digitally create the latest trend. *CAD is computer aided design Same as afternoon section (Limit 16)

Afternoon Options

1:00 – 2:00:

• EXPLORE FASHION – CAREERS WORKSHOP: Explore careers in fashion design, visual display, patternmaking, trend forecasting, technical design, and event planning through various speakers. Be ready to discover the fun careers in Design and Fashion Promotion and Merchandising. (Limit 52)

2:00 – 4:00:

• READY FOR RETAIL? – DISPLAY DESIGN WITH CAD: See how your favorite stores create displays by taking this crash course in CAD design. Using a specialized software, you can make your own dream displays and then create them in real time using mannequins, forms, and props. *CAD is computer aided design (Limit 12)

• LET’S GO DIGITAL – INTRO TO FASHION DESIGN WITH CAD: Be on the cutting edge of fashion by learning how to design your own garment using CAD software. This crash course will show you how the experts in fashion digitally create the latest trend. *CAD is computer aided design. Same as morning section (Limit 16)

• SEW IT UP – CLOTHING CONSTRUCTION:

SECTION ONE- UPCYCLING: Explore the world of upcycling to turn old garments into exciting new fashions! Must supply own garment to upcycle. (Limit 12)

SECTION TWO- CUT & SEW: Students will learn a variety of sewing techniques as they cut, sew, disassemble and reassemble to make a one of a kind finished garment. Students taking this class MUST have past experience in sewing (Limit 12)
