Join us for a meeting with Dr. Anna McFarlane, Lecturer in Fantasy Literature at the University of Glasgow, as she delves into the captivating worlds of science fiction, fantasy, and the medical humanities.We will explore how these genres help us understand complex issues like pregnancy, reproduction, and what it means to be human. Anna will share her unique academic journey and discuss the vital role of speculative fiction in universities and beyond.

Anna McFarlane is a Lecturer in Fantasy at the University of Glasgow and co-editor of the Edinburgh Companion to Science Fiction and the Medical Humanities (2025). Her research on pregnancy, reproduction and its expression in contemporary fantastika was awarded a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship and will be published as a monograph. She is a Visiting Collaborator on the Wellcome-Trust funded Future of Human Reproduction project at the University of Lancaster and the author of Cyberpunk Culture and Psychology: Seeing Through the Mirrorshades (2021).
The meeting will be run in English, intended for participants aged 16+. Free entry.
While Anna will be calling in via Zoom from Glasgow, we invite you to come to the library to spend some time in the company of other literature-lovers.
