About this Event

Join artist Emily Binks to explore the stories within objects and make sculptures using unwanted household items, inspired by our current exhibition by Michael E. Smith.

Unlock your creativity as you explore Smith’s unique approach to sculpture and installation art, and use his works as inspiration to create your own sculptures using unusual found materials.

Michael E. Smith uses found objects to create his sculptures, which have all had a previous life and hold stories within them. In this workshop artist Emily Binks invites you to explore the stories within objects and materials.

We’ll begin with a short tour of the exhibition, then explore the stories behind an object that you will bring from home. We’ll then use unusual sculptural materials that we have gathered from unwanted household items to make sculptures, which we’ll temporarily display and photograph in the galleries.

About the artist

Emily Binks is an artist and creative practitioner based at The Art House, Wakefield. She was born in Wakefield, West Yorkshire and studied at Edinburgh College of Art.

Binks examines the notion of ‘home’ through sculptural experiments using mixed media including reclaimed discarded furniture parts, materials often associated with temporary shelter construction and neon.
