Family Ties: A Workshop of Two New Operas

Join us for the premier of two new operas focusing on family dynamics - coping with the death of a parent, learning to stand up for what you believe in, and understanding how to come home when both you and your family have changed.

Come see these two new works-in-progress presented by a team of Baltimore-area artists!

In Rabbit Season - composed by Meg Huskin with libretto by Sarah Perret-Goluboff - a trio of adult sisters return home for the first Easter Sunday with their father after their mother's death. Though at first in sync, each sister’s grief manifests through opposing goals. After a shocking discovery, will this family be able to overcome their grief and move forward?

In Take Me Down - with libretto and music by Michael Mills - a young woman named Audrey returns home to a small town in Appalachia for her grandfather's funeral. After learning about the construction of a contentious natural gas pipline, she finds herself in the midst of intense arguments which sees her family members pitted against each other. Can Audrey have the strength to take the action she feels is right? How will her family react?

TellTale Opera Theatre is a community of Baltimore-based music and theatre artists founded in 2023 asking the question, “What can opera be?” We present and create works of musical storytelling that both work within and develop upon popular notions of the operatic genre, aiming to create new and unexpected dramatic experiences for our audience. Our artist-lead initiatives provide a platform for visionary new Baltimore-based voices to be heard, producing new operatic stories that reflect American audiences today.
