About this Event

What's it like to discover traces of your family's long-lost past at the New-York Historical Society? Join us for a moving discussion about research and genealogy with journalist and author Dennis Richmond, who recently visited the Patricia D. Klingenstein Library to find out more about his sixth great-grandmother, Tamar Felmetta. In the early 19th century, Tamar worked as a cook for John Pintard, a prominent merchant and one of the founders of New-York Historical, and Dennis wanted to view the actual letters Pintard wrote to his daughter between 1816 and 1833 that mention Tamar.

Dennis talks to New-York Historical's Laura Washington about his emotional discovery in the Library's collection, what drives his passion for genealogical research, and his connection with his ancestors.
