Join us for a day of discovery as we launch our new exhibit, Saving our Savannahs: Stories of the Longleaf Pine. This family-friendly celebration invites you to explore the wonders of the Longleaf Pine ecosystem through hands-on activities, nature crafts, and guided experiences.
From the forest floor to the tree canopy, you’ll meet the plants and animals that call this rare habitat home—and learn why protecting it matters.
Your adventure includes:
🌿 Forest scavenger hunt & garden tours
🌱 Native planting station
🔍 Seed science & fire ecology demonstrations
🪶 Red-cockaded woodpecker and flying squirrel crafts
🪴 Carnivorous plant display
🐾 Make a bear track & pinecone bird feeders
Then step into the Visitor Pavilion to experience the full Saving our Savannas exhibit, honoring the natural, cultural, and historical significance of longleaf pine communities across the Southeast.
No preregistration required—just bring your curiosity and sense of adventure!

The Saving our Savannas exhibit (on display from Sept 6-Oct 11 at Cape Fear Botanical Garden) is supported by a grant award from the Youth Growth Stock Trust, as administered by the United Way of Cumberland County. Mr. Robert Short generously established this trust to benefit the youth of Cumberland County.
