Fun, creative family dance workshops to enjoy together as a family
About this Event

We are very pleased to be able to offer a FREE family dance workshop opportunity (ideally aged 6+, but we can potentially plan for smaller ones if required).

Make the Sunshine is being supported by Somerset Activity Partnership to provide this opportunity for local families and St Paul’s school are very kindly hosting and supporting these workshops.

Sessions will be fun, upbeat and creative. You don’t need any experience. Just a willingness to try something new and have fun. Places on these workshops will be prioritised for children who are eligible for free school meals and children must attend with an adult.

This class will be accessible to complete beginners, no experience is needed. It will be a mix of street dance and contemporary.

Abut the Tutor

Sessions will be led by Mandy Redmond. Mandy is an incredible teacher who has taught at The Royal Academy of Dance in London and even choreographed a piece for the Lord Mayors Show at St Paul’s Cathedral! She trained at The Royal Ballet School and Northern School of Contemporary Dance and now runs Adventures in Dance.

Some comments about Mandy’s classes: 'I love this class! Mandy makes it really fun and we spend a lot of the time laughing whilst learning’.

‘Mandy is such an amazing teacher and person. She is very considerate and accommodating of every level’

Once Upon a Dance

Participants in BLOCK ONE will also have the opportunity to take part in Once Upon a Dance Festival on the eve of 29th – this is completely optional – you do not have to perform to take part! And you can join for both blocks if you would like.

From stories around the campfire to hieroglyphics etched in stone, from Alice in Wonderland to Peter Pan, tall tails of enormous beasts to shadowy puppets on the wall, from Shakespeare to fairytales, stories on the high seas to gossip at the bus stop… Once upon a Dance will celebrate the magic of stories and literature through dance and spoken word and a bit of magic!

Featuring local primary and secondary schools, professional companies and local dance groups in a site specific performance across Shepton Mallet town centre and the magical grounds of St Paul’s Junior School.
