Fall Sparrow Bird Walk Series at Woolsey Wet Prairie (Oct 21-Nov 8)

The Northwest Arkansas Audubon Society invites you to join us for the Fall Sparrow Bird Walk Series at Woolsey Wet Prairie — casual, drop-in morning walks led by local birders at one of the best all-around fall sparrow hotspots in NWA. We'll be meeting every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday from Oct 21 through Nov 8 to catch the best time of year for migrant sparrows and other grassland species to be arriving or passing through the area. With a wide variety of sparrows to see, we’ll navigate the difficulties of sparrow identification together and appreciate the amazing sparrow diversity at this site! Meet us at the Woolsey Wet Prairie parking area (GPS: 36.064467, -94.232408) at 7:00 AM — no registration, no experience needed, just bring your binoculars and a sense of curiosity. We'd love to see you out there!
PARKING: The official parking area for Woolsey (GPS: 36.064467, -94.232408) is part of the entrance to the treatment plant, and space is limited. About 4-5 cars can squeeze into the dedicated parking area but additional cars can park along the north side of the drive, so long as they don’t obstruct traffic in and out of the treatment plant.
ROUTE: The walks will generally be a slow ramble no more than ~1 mile on mowed grass paths. The group will always head North from the parking area into the preserve.
DROP IN AND OUT: If you arrive late, it should be pretty easy to connect with the group by walking North from the parking area into the preserve and looking for folks with binoculars. It’s flat, wide-open habitat, so it’s easy to scan most of the preserve from one spot. We’ll aim to return the parking lot by 9:00 AM by you can always leave earlier (or stay later) if desired.
INCLEMENT WEATHER: If there’s heavy rain and/or lighting in the forecast for the morning, consider these trips cancelled. We won’t make any special announcement about cancellations, so use your best judgement.
