Fall Porch Pot Workshop

Just because it's fall, doesn't mean the season of botanical beauty is through! We'll circle up with a variety of dried goods from our gardens and landscapes and learn how to repurpose an annual porch pot to display fall beauty in all its natural glory. You will learn components to look for in plants to dry, discuss basic tenets of floral art, and spend 20- 30 minutes creating so you can walk away with an arrangement to display at your home!

Please bring:

• Your own pot, 8–16 inches wide with soil already in it. This is a great opportunity to repurpose one of your annual porch pots from the summer!
• A few bundles of dried garden materials to contribute to our “floral bee.” Aim for bundle about 2 inches in diameter, roughly the circle made when you touch your index finger and thumb together.

Look around your garden and landscape for interesting seed heads, grasses, branches, pods, flowers, herbs, foliage, and other materials that hold their shape or texture when dried. Think hydrangeas, ornamental grasses, artemisia, alliums, yarrow, seed heads, interesting branches, and more.

Come by Phelan Gardens ahead of the workshop to see what we’re drying from our own gardens for inspiration!

Nursery pots, soil, and bundles of dried materials will be available for purchase before and during class, so don’t worry if you don’t have everything you need at home.

Participants will work together from our collection of dried materials to create a one-of-a-kind arrangement filled with natural fall texture and beauty.

You’ll leave with new ideas for harvesting and drying materials from your own landscape, and a finished fall arrangement ready to display at home!
