No individual is “illegal” despite incendiary political rhetoric that would have Americans believe otherwise. The efforts to criminalize immigration and, worse, the actions to enforce policies that lead to detainment, deportation, and death, are arguably unethical and unconstitutional. We just can’t let that skate. In this exclusive collection of shorts, award-winning filmmakers challenge perceptions and practices of the Department of Homeland Security and the law enforcement agencies under its purview.
ABOUT FALL OF FREEDOM:
Our Democracy is under attack. Threats to free expression are rising. Dissent is being criminalized. Institutions and media have been recast as mouthpieces of propaganda.Last fall, we activated a nationwide wave of creative resistance. Across the country, hundreds of galleries, museums, libraries, comedy clubs, theaters, schools, street corners and concert halls in almost every state hosted exhibitions, performances, and public events that channelled the urgency of this moment. Fall of Freedom's open invitation to artists, creators, and communities to take part has shown us the depth of talent and shared commitment to stand up to repression — and to celebrate the experiences, cultures, and identities that shape the fabric of our nation.
