About this Event

What will I learn in this class?

This class is where the Brazilian Zouk journey begins!

Fall in love with Zouk is designed to give you everything you need to start your zouk adventure. In this introductory course, you will develop an understanding of the 3 Basic rhythms in B-Zouk, the foundational footwork of our dance, as well as some of the techniques used in B-Zouk.

Who should take this class?

Anyone who loves the idea of being a part of a fun healthy social community, dancers and/or non-dancers, people looking to develop new social dancing skills for the first time, and seasoned dancers who want to develop new techniques that can be applied to other dances like bachata and salsa dance.

Total beginners are welcome, no partner necessary. We welcome anyone and everyone in an inclusive and friendly atmosphere.

What will I accomplish by the end of this class?

At the end of this class, you will know the fundamentals of B-Zouk and be able to demonstrate the basic timing and steps as well as demonstrate some of the powerful techniques that make our dance style so unique. You will feel more confident to get out on the dance floor in any dance scenario and move your body as a result of training new movement styles and sequences. You will be welcomed into a healthy vibrant social dance community of like-minded individuals who encourage each other's growth. You may be ready to join one of our other more advanced course modules and continue training to deepen your understanding and training in this dance style.

Will there be a skills test to verify my physical understanding?

Yes! We will host a skills assessment to determine how far you have developed over the course and to verify you have the skills needed to join one of our other leveled courses at the end of the course. Depending on your level during the assessment we will determine the best approach to your next steps and set up a plan for success!

What Should I bring to the class with me?

We encourage students to bring their Island Zouk Journal (included in registration) with them to document what they learn each week in written form also. It’s a good idea to bring some sort of dance shoes that have a non-stick sole so that you can turn easily on the dance floor. Heels are not necessary but can be worn if not too high. Great options are ballet flats, “Toms” brand of loafers or jazz shoes.

Please wear comfortable clothing (gym style fully works).

Good hygiene is essential for our classes as we dance in close proximity.
