The Oshkosh Area Community Band will present a Fall Concert on Saturday, November 1 beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Alberta Kimball Auditorium at Oshkosh West High School. The band will present a concert of a variety of music written by our “Foreign Friends”. This is a prelude to our 2026 concerts which will celebrate America and American composers for the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. The band is led by Music Director David Berndt.
Suite Francaise, a wind band classic, was written by the French composer Darius Milhaud. The band will perform three movements of the suite: Normandie, Alsace-Lorraine, and Provence. These are
three of the French provences in which the American and Allied forces fought together with the Frech underground for the liberation of France during World War 2.
The Girl From Ipanema is a Brazilian bossa nova and jazz song which was a world wide hit in the mid-1960s. The music was written by Antonio Carlos Jobim. It was arranged for band by Howard Cable.
Galop from Genevieve de Brabant was from the operetta by Jaques Offenbach. This is a spirited and light-hearted work which contains the origin of what we know today as the Marine’s Hymn.
The Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Assistant Music Director Jon Basten, will present a set of jazz tunes including an arrangement of Earth, Wind, and Fires’ “In the Stone”.
Marches, popular tunes, dance tunes, and other music from the theatre will round out the concert which will last about one hour and forty-five minutes including an intermission. There is never an admission
charged, although we do accept donations at the door.
