The concert will showcase performances by "Lads," an ensemble of lower voices, and "Lassies," an ensemble of higher voices. These groups will unite to form "Off Kilter," a chamber group of mixed voices. The concert's repertoire spans a variety of historical styles and genres. The program includes “In stiller Nacht,” one of Johannes Brahms' most cherished folk song arrangements, and Paul John Rudoi’s “Yonder Come Day,” a traditional melody from the Georgia Sea Islands. Lads will perform “O Love” by Elaine Hagenberg and Lassies will add a touch of fun with Billy Joel’s “The Longest Time,” arranged by Brent Sawyer.
This concert marks the debut of Jacob Parauka, the new choral assistant at Maryville College. Jacob and his wife recently relocated to the Knoxville area after he earned a master’s degree in music education from Troy University in Troy, Alabama.
Says Parauka: "I am so grateful and excited to be working with the choral ensembles at Maryville. Even though I've only just started, I already feel right at home in this community of singers. I can't wait for our first opportunity to make some amazing art together!"
The director of Off Kilter and Lassies is Stacey Murphy Wilner. Jenny Olander Anderson serves as the director for the Lads and as collaborative pianist for the Lassies. Chase Hatmaker is the pianist Off Kilter and Lads, while his wife Amber Nejme-Hatmaker, is the percussionist.
Admission to the concert is free.
