Our first speaker is Alex Lundquist, PhD, RDN, LDN.
Alex is a Registered Dietician with over ten years of experience in nutrition education across clinical, community, and academic settings. Alex has a PhD in nutritional sciences and a bachelor's degree in psychology, both from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. Through these lenses, she enjoys blending the science of nutrition and the human side of how we relate to food. Alex specializes in a non-diet approach to nutrition or health concerns, unlearning diet culture, healing relationships with food and eating, disordered eating patterns, picky eating/limited variety, eating disorders, and child and family nutrition.
The title of her talk will be: Recognizing and Responding to Eating Disorders in the Dental Setting
Our second speaker is Kimberly Benkert, RDH, BSDH, MPH, COM, FAADH, FADHA
Kimberly is a graduate of Loyola University, College of Dentistry with a BS in Dental Hygiene, a Master's of Public Health in Health Policy and Administration and Dental Public Health from the University of Illinois-School of Public Health, and Certified in Orofacial Myology and Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT) from the International Association of Orofacial Myology. She works with patients to retrain functional breathing, oromotor imbalances, oral postural patterns and function, tethered oral tissues and frenums, eliminating parafunctional habits such as non-nutritive sucking, bruxism, muscular TMD, and symptoms related to sleep apnea.
The title of her talk will be: Understanding the What, Why, When, and How: Utilizing Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy
