Fall Bus Tour of Four Heritage Conservation Districts

ACO member Warren Stauch, who has led many successful bus tours will be our guide.

We will meet at Victoria Park in Kitchener and visit the Saint Mary’s Heritage Conservation District first. At the Veterans' Green Interpretive Area, we will be guided by Sandra Sparks, who will provide details about the district and how it was formed and the importance of housing after WWII.

We then travel to the New Hamburg Heritage Conservation District, pointing out a few heritage properties along the way. In New Hamburg, we will be guided to various buildings in and around the HCD, including Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church where we view the sanctuary and a plaque to Frederic Bindemann, an early pastor in the area who reportedly married over 2,000 couples in the mid-1800s.

Following that we will have lunch at the Scran anad Dram Scottish Public House (included in the cost). Once you have registered for the tour, we will ask you to chose one of three meals provided by the restaurant.

After lunch we will travel to Greenfield Heritage Conservation District, viewing the saltbox houses along the road that housed mill workers and other heritage buildings in the area.

We then travel along some streets to view heritage buildings in Ayr on our way to the Upper Doon Heritage Conservation District. After stopping at one end of the district, we will walk along Doon Village Road to Tilt Drive where the bus will pick us up to to return to Victoria Park.

At each stop we will have local experts to answer questions about the heritage conservation districts and buildings.
