Teen Metalsmithing: From Junk to Funk, Sustainable Design Using Reclaimed MaterialsDescription: Get ready to transform trash into treasure! In this hands-on course designed especially for teens, you'll explore the art of metalsmithing through the lens of sustainability and creative reuse. Using reclaimed and upcycled materials—such as scrap metal, found objects, and discarded hardware—you’ll learn to design and fabricate one-of-a-kind jewelry and small sculptural pieces.
Students will gain foundational skills in sawing, texturing, cold connections (like riveting and tab settings), and natural patinas—all without the need for soldering or torches. You'll be encouraged to think outside the (tool)box as you problem-solve, collaborate, and push the limits of what materials can become.
No prior experience needed—just your imagination and a willingness to get a little gritty. By the end of the course, you’ll walk away with unique wearable art and a deeper understanding of how sustainable design can help shape the future.
Level: Ages 13 – 17
Please note: Registration for this class will close on Saturday, October 4 at midnight.
