About this Event
If you haven't done it before climbing a remnant of the steel industry on the southeast side of Chicago and then see a hawk fly over you south with the skyline in the background surrounded by other Birders of Color is such a unique experience that cannot be replicated anywhere else. The Chicago BIPOC Birders and Southeast Side Park District welcome Birders of Color to join us for one last Hawkwatch this fall bird migration season on top of the Steelworkers Park climbing wall. We will be identifying and counting the hawks and other birds that fly past, above, below, and at eye-level with us. There will be a safety procedure + waiver to sign just before we climb the wall, but let us know if you have any other questions beforehand.
If you are worried about your physical ability to climb the wall still please come and try as the south east side park climbing guide has lots of tools on his belt literally to make the climb accessible to you. We will strive to facilitate an encouraging environment for all. Those who do not want to climb the wall are welcome to still sign-up and bird with others on the coast of the lake.
Limited availability is reserved for Black, Indigenous, Birders of Color. Feel free to bring a chair or blanket to take a seat on the wall and reminder to dress in layers in case of winds or other weather changes.
Free parking is available on the other side of the cul-de-sac at the end of 87th street (exactly to the left of where we'll be climbing) and there is a portable restroom available to us on site.

If you can't make it check out the community climb days the park district does!
