About this Event
Faith Ringgold Story Quilt! (Kids of All Ages) ✂️✂️✂️
February is Black History Month! During February, we honor the work and contributions of African-Americans now and throughout history.
Faith Ringgold was a Black artist, writer, and activist from right here in New Jersey. She was known for her story quilts, which mixed painted images and text with traditional fabric quilting. We are going to make our very own story quilt based on Faith's book Tar Beach!
In this kit, you will receive:
- Information about Faith Ringgold and images from her children's book "Tar Beach," which features a dream child flying over the George Washington Bridge in NYC on a warm summer night
- An assortment of patterned fabric swatches and cardstock templates so you can create your own story quilt with your own dream child flying through the night sky!
- Coloring page
- A Faith Ringgold paper doll to color and assemble
Crafts can be picked up on THURSDAY, January 29th from 2 PM to 6 PM. Curbside is available.
Need to pick up later? We will hold your crafts from Thursday evening until Friday at 5 pm (no later) AS LONG AS YOU CONTACT US IN ADVANCE.
Reminder: All patrons are required to comply with the library's policy against bullying, harassment and lewd behavior. Patrons who engage in abusive behavior will forfeit, at least temporarily, their right to request craft kits. Please remember to be kind.
