Fair Housing Isn't Only Required, It's Necessary...Fair housing isn't only a required CE class by law, but it's necessary for building a just and equitable society for our families and future generations. Treating everyone equally and fairly is the most ethical way to operate in life, no matter what your field. Real estate, as an industry, has historically been one where treating everyone with fairness and equality has come into question for good reason.
Generations of people have been negatively affected in numerous ways by unfair and unethical housing policies by individuals, landlords, and even financial institutions. That's why on April 11, 1968, President Lyndon Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1968, of which Title VIII is known as the Fair Housing Act. The act prohibited discrimination concerning the sale, rental, and financing of housing based on race, religion, national origin, sex, (and as amended) handicap and family status. Today, New York State and others have expanded on those protected classes further in order to help ensure everyone is treated equitably. As laws continue to change, it is necessary to stay knowledgeable and dilligent.
