A palimpsest is a written object on which the original writing has been effaced to make room for later writing, but of which traces remain. Tonight's program features music by Carlos Guastavino and six new works by six composers from around the world. Just like a palimpsest, these new pieces are deeply connected to the ancient folk traditions—from Argentina to China—that inspired them. All six composers were finalists in the 2023 Carlos Guastavino International Composition Competition. Performers include CU Boulder faculty, graduate students and guests, and is co-sponsored by the Sonus International Music Festival, a collective of artists dedicated to the study, performance and diffusion of the music of Carlos Guastavino, and the work of artists similarly inspired by folk traditions.Renowned CU Boulder College of Music faculty artists perform with students and colleagues in chamber music recitals featuring world premieres and beloved classics. Join us for this free series in person at Grusin Music Hall or via livestream most Tuesdays August through March.
Presented in-person and streamed live on our website.
