Featuring works by Arvo Pärt, Beethoven, Shostakovich and Piazzolla.Between Shadows and Light” invites listeners on a powerful journey through contrasting sound worlds. Presented by Igor Cetkovic and Christina Giuca Krause, this cello and piano recital explores the deep emotional spectrum of the 20th and 21st centuries, anchored by the timeless voice of Beethoven.
From the spiritual minimalism of Arvo Pärt, to the haunting introspection of Shostakovich, the passionate tangos of Piazzolla, and the classical clarity of Beethoven, the program reveals how music navigates extremes—of light and darkness, silence and sound, struggle and transcendence.

Dr. Igor Cetkovic teaches cello performance at Hope College.
A native of Belgrade, Serbia, cellist Igor Cetkovic enjoys a career as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestra member, and educator. Igor has served with orchestras across Europe and the United States, including the Bergen Philharmonic, Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, and as solo cellist of the Serbian chamber orchestra, “The St. George Strings”. A winner of many national and regional competitions and performance awards, Igor finished his doctoral studies at Michigan State University, studying under the renowned Suren Bagratuni. Igor’s other principal teachers include his father Relja Cetkovic, Sandra Belic, Liv Opdal and Jamie Fiste. Currently, Igor Cetkovic is the principal cellist and Artist-in-residence with the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, Principal cellist of the West Michigan Symphony, and cello faculty at Hope College.

Prof. Christina Giuca Krause teaches piano and is a collaborative pianist at Hope College.
Pianist Christina Giuca Krause is a highly sought-after collaborator for instrumentalists and singers, performing in major concert settings including New York’s Weill and Steinway Recital Halls. Her diverse career spans both opera and academia, with music staff roles at the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Lyric Opera of Chicago’s Ryan Opera Center, and Chicago Opera Theater, as well as Northwestern’s Bienen School of Music.
Driven by a commitment to championing the music and stories of today, Christina helped bring new operas to life, most notably Terence Blanchard’s Fire Shut Up in My Bones. As the pianist winner of the Marilyn Horne Song Competition (2017), she premiered “These Strangers” by Jake Heggie.
A dedicated educator, Christina serves on the music faculty at Hope College and maintains a private studio in West Michigan. Christina holds degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory and Rice University, and a postgraduate fellowship from the Bard College Conservatory.
