Faces of Freedmen," is a powerful visual tribute to the resilience and legacy of the Freedmen of the Five Tribes. This collage weaves together the faces of ancestors and descendants alongside their Dawes records, creating a living archive of identity, survival, and pride.
More than an art installation, Faces of Freedmen serves as a primer for those beginning their journey into Freedmen genealogy. Through curated examples of Dawes enrollment cards, census documents, and family photos, the exhibit introduces visitors to the tools and stories necessary to trace their lineage.
By honoring the past and empowering the present, this exhibit pays homage to our lineage.
