FABSCRAP BKLYN Move Day Volunteer: Wednesday September 11th, PM Session

Help FABSCRAP make more space!

If you’re reading this, you’ve probably seen the mountain of diverted textile waste looming over the BK warehouse. If you haven’t - see the picture above!

Our goal is to move out at least 500 bags in 2 days and are looking for volunteers to help!

As a thank you, we’re offering a meal, drinks, snacks, and a chance to see the FABSCRAP floor that hasn’t been seen by many!

You’ll also receive a shopping voucher for 8 lbs!

Since this volunteer role is one thing and one thing only - pick up, move, and put down big bags of fabric -

***Volunteers are required to be able to lift at least 50 lbs***

Another requirement is promptness & avoiding a no-show, please!

This is a very physically demanding volunteer session, while we are grateful for your support, please be considerate of your abilities when signing up. To achieve our goal, FABSCRAP might need to turn some people away.

What to expect (PM Session):

• 12:00 - 12:30: Check-in & lunch
• 12:30 - 1:00 Overview & role assignment
• 1:00 - 2:30 - Moving bags
• Ample and self-regulated breaks throughout
• 2:30 - 2:45 - break
• 2:45 - 4:00 organize
• 4:00 - end

***Moving Day requires heavy lifting (50+ lbs). By registering for a session, you are confirming that you have read, understood, and agreed to the volunteer waiver.***

Tips for a successful volunteer session:

• Dress comfortably and wear comfortable shoes as we'll be moving a lot and on our feet.
• We play music, but feel free to bring headphones
• Feel free to bring water or beverages with a cap/lid; there are also vending machines in the entrance of the building
• As the weather gets cooler, windows will only be open for ventilation depending on outside temperature
• Please be sure to register for every session you plan to attend, and have any guests who want to accompany you register as well.

As a thank-you for completing this special volunteer session, we’re happy to:

• Give you a voucher for 8 pounds of fabric for FREE that can be used at a future date (Our reuse room will be closed during the move).

• A First Aid kit, gloves and hand sanitizer will be available

DIRECTIONS ARE IMPORTANT:

The FABSCRAP warehouse is located in Building B within the Brooklyn Army Terminal (BAT), which is accessible by foot, bike/scooter, car, subway, bus, and ferry. Free indoor and outdoor bike parking is available at BAT Building B entrances (58th Street). This entrance is fully accessible. Free, secure on-site parking is available for cars at the Pier 4/NYC Ferry parking lot.

IF YOU CAN NO LONGER ATTEND / NEED TO CANCEL:

We have limited availability and high demand for our volunteer opportunities. Any missing volunteer significantly impacts our operations and takes away the spot from another community member. If you can no longer make it for any reason, kindly cancel your Eventbrite ticket prior to the session through your confirmation email (see below) or by emailing [email protected] with the info about what session you are canceling.

How do you cancel your ticket?

Once you receive your confirmation email, please click “Go to My Tickets”. From there, please click cancel your ticket.
