Fabric Doll Making
About this Event
Fabric dolls have long held fascination with children and adults. Fabric dolls, or rag dolls as they are sometimes known, have been around for a long time and quite often hold personal meaning. Fabric dolls make excellent gifts and family heirlooms.
In this workshop you will work with Victoria to make your own version of a fabric doll. There will be a template available to trace and follow, or it can be adapted if required. The template is based on Victoria’s doll, on seeing Angelina in Victoria’s studio, many people requested a workshop to make their own version of a fabric doll.
There are many customisable elements to the doll, in the style of hair, dress, shoes, and accessories.
This workshop is suitable for all levels, from beginners to advanced. The making of the doll involves just a few simple stitches, and Victoria will guide you through the steps. It is also suitable for advanced stitchers as it is possible to be creative with the design of the doll and the embroidery.
All the materials to make your doll and accessories are included in this workshop.
The materials included for you to embroider in the session, and to take away with you:
- Wool fabric to make the doll.
- Fabric and felt, to make the dress and accessories.
- Stranded and Perle cotton embroidery threads.
- Pure wool threads.
- Beads, buttons, and embellishments.
- John James embroidery needles.
- Instructions and templates.
If there are any materials that you would like to bring along, especially gifted or inherited fabrics and threads, then please do. These dolls make beautiful memory dolls, and can hold cherished sentiments.
There will be a printed guide accompanying your kit, and it may be necessary to complete some of the doll’s accessories following the workshop. Victoria will be available on email following the workshop to answer any queries.
Artist bio:
Victoria Merness is an artist, teacher, and designer. Victoria holds an MA in Contemporary Fine Art, and whilst her creative business focus is on designing embroidery kits for Little House of Victoria, she also specialises in textile art, mixed media, painting, and printmaking. Victoria’s personal practice often combines paint, print, and stitch, and is autobiographical with familial themes.
Victoria loves to encourage the enjoyment of making, with a strong focus on progression over perfection.

Sunny Bank Mills is an inspirational cultural destination in the heart of the local community of Farsley, Leeds. Founded in 1829, these glorious Mills are being regenerated by the sixth generation of the family owners, creating a wonderful blend of work, leisure and culture.

Workshop and course bookings can be cancelled and refunded up until 7 days before the scheduled start date. As materials and equipment are ordered in advance, we regret that refunds cannot be offered less than 7 days before the workshop date. Please note that Eventbrite’s booking fee is non-refundable.
If we need to cancel the course for any reason your ticket will be fully refunded.
