This show is about finding yourself again after a time where you have felt lost or confused, like you don’t know your way forward. It’s coming home to oneself. We find that music is the number one thing that brings us back to the moment and back to ourselves. So with the instrumental motifs of bassist and the soulful melodies of singer-songwriter , we will reflect on those lessons learned.
Naomie April is a singer-songwriter from western North Carolina. Writing since the age of seven and recording since the age of twelve, Naomie’s roots in the Appalachian mountains are reflected in her bands upcoming debut album Stages. Piano is her main instrument, and her operatic voice tolls like a belltower. Naomie’s original songs deliver an emotional journey through lyrical poetry. Her music radiates authenticity and evokes the deep struggle that is the human condition. Pain, wonder, joy, love and loss — Naomie April’s young voice speaks to generations of living struggle and triumph.
Amina Scott is a bassist, composer, and graduate of Loyola University New Orleans. In 2019, she received her Master’s degree from Florida State University under the tutelage of Rodney Jordan. She was also part of the 2017 Ravinia Jazz Program cohort under the direction of Rufus Reid, Billy Childs, and Nathan Davis. She has performed with artists such as Jazzmeia Horn, Chief Xian Atunde Adjuah, Don Vappie, David Murray, Johnny Vidacovich, Joanne Bracken, Nicholas Payton, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Randy Brecker, Herlin Riley, and Germaine Bazzle. Currently, Amina Scott serves on the faculty at Loyola University New Orleans and the University of New Orleans. She has also been a faculty member for the Lafayette Summer Music Workshop since 2022.
