Eye of the Camera: Maximizing Your Images through Lens Choice

In this two-hour class, you will learn how your camera “sees” the world differently than your eyes, and how you can make more interesting and impactful photographs by understanding the similarities and differences between a camera and your eye. Topics will include:

* How to choose the correct focal length for the photograph you want to make

* How to take advantage of the differences between your eye and the camera to make your images stand out

* How to start “seeing” more like your camera and less like your human eye.

This hands-on class will give you a deeper understanding of why some photographs look a lot like what you saw while others are very different, both in good and bad ways.

Equipment Required: A DSLR or Mirrorless camera with a range of focal length options; best to have options between 16 mm and 200 mm.

Instructor - Steve Daubs

Steve’s passion for photography was born in the streets of Chicago followed by late nights in the darkroom in his college years at Northwestern University. Since then, he’s worked as a photojournalist, travel photographer, and, for the past 10 years, as a wedding and portrait photographer in Florida and Wisconsin. With more than a decade of experience teaching, he loves demystifying photographic concepts and helping people understand not only how to do something but why it matters.

Camera Company classes need a minimum number of students to register before we can hold the class. If the minimum registration has not occurred within two days before the class date it will be cancelled. All students who enrolled in the class will be notified by email and will be offered to transfer their registration to another class offering or issued a full refund.
