We are pleased to invite you to the parallel group exhibitions “External Echoes” and “Telling Tales” by Thai and international artists, curated by students of the Master's Program in Curatorial Practice at Chulalongkorn University. The exhibitions explore the potential of narratives to transcend their original format by examining the interplay between storytelling and form. Furthermore, these exhibitions look at the resilience of narratives and examine their ability to continue seamlessly across time and medium. In celebration of Children's Book Week, we delve into the timeless themes and universal truths found in literature translated into vivid and evocative works of art.

“External Echoes” intertwines the realms of literature and visual art, presenting an immersive exploration of the enduring power of creativity and imagination. Inspired by William Shakespeare's Sonnet 55, this exhibition serves as a testament to the everlasting resonance of literary masterpieces and their ability to transcend the boundaries of time and space. Through the lens of visual art, we reimagine the themes and sentiments expressed in Shakespeare's sonnet, offering a contemporary interpretation that speaks to the universal human experience. Just as Shakespeare's poetry captures the essence of love, mortality, and immortality, the artworks featured in "Eternal Echoes" reflect upon these timeless themes, inviting viewers on a journey of introspection and discovery. From whimsical illustrations inspired by beloved children's books to thought-provoking mixed-media installations that blur the line between reality and imagination, each piece serves as a window into the rich tapestry of human creativity.
"Telling Tales" expands the concept of literacy by exploring storytelling through images. The exhibition offers alternative approaches to narrative expression that go beyond written storytelling. Pushing the boundaries of conventional traditions, the artists explore paper as a medium for their stories, providing a visual surface for their narrative expression.
In his work "Mi'raj", Bangkok based artist Narsid explores the mystical ascent described in Islamic tradition, where Prophet Muhammad transcends the earthly realm to receive divine wisdom. This artwork, vividly brought to life through gouache on paper, uses vibrant colors and dynamic forms to capture the essence of this celestial journey.
Krittayoch Puhom’s work focuses on the depiction of various facets of life by examining different perspectives of humanity. Tales from the past meet stories from the present. “Telling Tales” encourages the audience to rethink the nature of storytelling and its unlimited potential for creative expression by inviting them to immerse themselves into other realities. What appears to be traditional has been reinterpreted and transformed into a contemporary narrative.
These exhibitions are curated by students of the Curatorial Practice M.A. program at Chulalongkorn University.
