Expressive Bird Painting in Watercolour and Ink

In this workshop, you’ll learn to capture some of our native birds in a playful, expressive and lifelike way.

We'll start with some drawing warm-ups and fundamental skill development. You don't need to have any drawing experience to take part: an experienced, supportive tutor will be on hand to guide you. We'll then learn how to get the most out of watercolour, creating subtle transparent washes alongside intense passages of colour to capture the lively but fleeting energy of the birds.

We will also use a range of Tim’s favourite art supplies to complement and strengthen our watercolour work.

As we have a full day, you will have plenty of time to create several bird paintings, so we will take the time to slow down, look carefully, and experiment with different techniques and styles to find your own voice. All art supplies will be provided, and you will go away with the skills to create your own expressive bird artworks.

Artist bio:

Tim Gomersall is an artist and illustrator with an interest in storytelling. He started learning to draw after a serious injury left him signed off work, and was fortunate to find that it was his passion. He has gone on to become a professional illustrator and exhibiting artist, creating lively and playful artwork for children’s book covers, commercial clients, as well as for art lovers and galleries. Tim had his debut solo exhibition in 2025, and is currently working on his first author-illustrated children’s novel, Goth Robin.

Workshop and course bookings can be cancelled and refunded up until 7 days before the scheduled start date. As materials and equipment are ordered in advance, we regret that refunds cannot be offered less than 7 days before the workshop date. Please note that Eventbrite’s booking fee is non-refundable.
