Expressive Arts Therapy for Anxiety and Depression is an integrated approach designed to bring balance to our brains and nervous systems that are greatly affected by stress, anxiety, depression and PTSD.
Mindfulness, music, art-making and body awareness practices allow us to gently move into altered states in order to clear trauma and reduce symptoms that cause irritability, memory and concentration issues, insomnia, physical pain and mental health issues.
This process activates certain brain states that help us to move out of fight or flight and into a conscious flow state where we will experience relaxation, healing and creativity.
In the safe space provided by an experienced therapist, and through the art, music and imagery process, physical and emotional release will occur.
Expressive Arts Therapy uses music, movement, body awareness, mindfulness, ritual and art making – drawing, painting, clay, assemblage, collage – to help heal by accessing the beliefs we hold about ourselves and our world. When we explore our beliefs and attitudes, we can work to change them, allowing for resolution and recovery.
Each group will begin with a drum circle so bring a drum or percussion instrument.
We will learn methods to release trapped energy, anxiety and emotion in the body through fun somatic therapy exercises that teach emotional identification and regulation.
We will engage in therapeutic art activities as a means of self-expression, creativity and release. Our inner child will come out to play and we will learn intuitive art practices that require no skill or experience.
These monthly classes teach mindfulness, raise self-esteem, reduce social anxiety and promote and overall sense of balance, health and well-being.
Each session is $30 per child.
If more than one child, rate is $25 per child for 2nd child.
