Basé à Tiohtià:ke (Montréal, Canada), le collectif artistique Convention collective s’intéresse aux liens entre art et travail dans une optique multidisciplinaire. Nous avons pour objectif de créer des œuvres qui engagent le dialogue et remettent en question les perceptions du travail et des personnes qui travaillent. Chaque année, le collectif choisit un thème en lien avec un aspect de la jonction art-travail. Pour sa première année, en 2024-2025, CCA a choisi le thème « Manger, travailler ». À l’heure actuelle, le collectif se compose de Corie Waugh, Gavin Sewell et Selena Phillips-Boyle. Pensez à inviter tout le monde dans votre entourage que notre travail pourrait intéresser!

Par son premier projet, intitulé « Manger, travailler », Convention collective engage le dialogue sur la conscience de classe, la montée des coûts associés aux besoins de base et l’accessibilité de la nourriture en s’intéressant aux concepts de survie et d’alimentation à l’ère du capitalisme financiarisé. Dans une optique multidisciplinaire et en tant qu’artistes issu·e·s de la classe ouvrière, les membres du collectif apportent leur individualité à la démarche – matériaux, recherche, points de vue. Le projet donnera lieu à un repas communautaire, une intervention publique sous forme d’affichage à la colle de farine et une petite publication « faite maison », qu’on appelle affectueusement un zine.
À la jonction troublante entre le travail et l’alimentation, Convention collective passe par l’art pour approfondir le discours public sur ces enjeux. En explorant ces questions, nous voulons commencer à démythifier un système de production, de distribution et de consommation qui ne répond pas aux besoins de base des êtres humains. Nous invitons le public à réfléchir, à agir et à trouver des moyens créatifs pour nous rapprocher du jour où tout le monde, sans hypocrisie, pourra se souhaiter : « bon appétit! »

Collective Agreement is an artist collective based in Tiohtià:ke (Montréal, Canada) working at the intersections of art and labour through a multidisciplinary approach. The collective aims to create engaging art which opens dialogue and challenges perceptions about work and working people. Each year the collective selects a theme focused on a particular aspect of the art-labour nexus. The theme for CCA’s inaugural 2024 year is ‘Food and Labour’. In the debut project, ‘Food and Labour’, Collective Agreement opens a conversation around class consciousness, the rising cost of essential basics, and food accessibility by exploring the notions of nourishment and survival under financialized capitalism. Through a multidisciplinary approach and a common identity as working class artists, each member contributes work using their chosen materials, research, and perspectives. The project culminates in community food gathering, public intervention in the form of wheat pasting, and a small DIY publication - lovingly known as zines.
At the troubling intersection of food and labour, Collective Agreement aims to deepen the public conversation about these issues through creative artwork. By exploring these questions we hope to reduce the mystification around a system of production, distribution, and consumption that is failing to meet basic human needs. We wish to encourage both reflection and action on the part of audiences and creatively advance the day when our whole society can — without hypocrisy — wish each other, ‘Bon appetit!’
