Public meeting
Organised by Hastings Stand Up To Racism
Thursday April 27th
7pm
Isabel Blackman Centre
Winding Street TN34 3AT
'Mad Jack' Fuller lived in Brightling in the 1800's and was a slaveowner. His wealth came from two sugar plantations in Jamaica. He was a Tory MP for Sussex who campaigned in favour of slavery and financed 'research' to justify slavery, racism and the oppression of black people.
His image as a loveable rogue and eccentric philanthropist is a myth.
Speakers:
Mike Anderson, East Sussex historian who has researched the truth about 'Mad Jack' Fuller and campaigns to put the record straight
Gary McFarlane, Black Lives Matter organiser who will describe the reality of life on Jamaican plantations and the history of slave revolts.
