About this Event
Join teams from PHM and Southern Voices for a Black History Month event inspired by the exhibition ‘Exploring the Legacies of Empire: Some Perspectives from the Global South’ (on show until 12 January 2025).
10.00am – 4.00pm (lunchtime closure 12.30pm – 1.30pm)
Archive open day
Drop in to PHM’s archive and delve into key documents and posters linked to the themes of colonialism, struggles against imperialism, racism, migration, and the environment.

Legacy of Resistance workshop
Join an interactive workshop with Southern Voices looking at the 18th century Maroon Wars in Jamaica. Aimed at local communities, students, and educators, we will explore connections to local and global histories of anti-imperialism and anti-racism through presentations, group activities, and discussions.
Participants will create a piece of artwork, poetry, or a short narrative. You don’t need any previous knowledge to take part, just willingness to follow the process as part of a group.
Suitable for 16+ (under 18s must have an accompanying adult).
