The art of bookbinding and book construction is a historical and precise art form. This course relies less on the correct rules of construction and more on the process of developing a creative idea into an artist book. The purpose of this course is to explore the creative process by using various writing, drawing, and art-making prompts. We will begin each day with individual guided opportunities for creative exploration, followed by instructor-led demonstrations of simple book structures and pop-up forms. The majority of each afternoon will be allocated for studio work time, during which participants will be given time to practice creating book structures as well as develop content for those structures.
