Exploring the Collection: Leonora Carrington

Join us on Saturday, December 7th at noon for an unforgettable afternoon as we celebrate the life, legacy, and surrealist artistry of the extraordinary British Leonora Carrington. As part of our permanent collection, we are proud to showcase three of Carrington’s captivating works—each a testament to her visionary contributions to the surrealist movement.

This special event features an insightful presentation led by Purdue Art History professor, Catherine Dossin, who will explore Carrington's profound impact on surrealism, her unique approach to storytelling, and her enduring influence on contemporary art. Our own Andrea Klutzke, Museum Curator, will also share the fascinating story of how these rare works became part of our collection, and why it’s so significant for a small non-profit museum in Indiana to house such iconic pieces.

In celebration of Carrington’s deep connection to Mexican culture, we’ll be offering catering from Mama Inez and serving refreshing horchata, a drink that Carrington, a naturalized Mexican citizen, may have enjoyed herself.

We are also thrilled to welcome Michaela Carter, historian and author of one of the first novels about Carrington, for a special written interview. Michaela’s book offers a fresh perspective on Carrington’s life and work, and will be available for purchase during the event.
