About this Event
Speaker's Bio:
My name is Omoyele Davey and I have been a BSL Interpreter for over 20 years now and a Professional Supervisor since 2015, having been part of the first cohort to qualify through 360 Supervision.
I love both my careers and feel lucky that my studies for both found me at the perfect time. As an interpreter I have felt, first hand, the impact the job can have on you and have found supervision has given me the safe space I need to reflect, unpick, explore other perspectives, celebrate the positives, receive praise I truly take on board and the ability to become a better professional. It is a passion that I love to share and becoming a supervisor and being able to offer a safe space to my supervisees is a joy and privilege.
With growing discussion on the impacts of vicarious trauma on interpreters who are exposed to traumatic speaker content, Omoyele will look at what professional supervision is and how it can assist practitioners to have a healthier professional practice.
The talk will cover the following:
- What is Supervision?
- What it isn’t!
- Why supervision?
- Aims of supervision
- Functions of supervision
- What to expect and how to prepare
- What to expect from a Professional Supervisor
