About this Event
How much do you know about the Brooklyn neighborhood of Greenpoint other than its backdrop in HBO's Girls? It's time to hit the streets and uncover one of New York's most fascinating neighborhoods — changing fast, yet anchored in the past — like never before.
Join New York Adventure Club as we explore Brooklyn’s diverse and intriguing waterfront neighborhood of Greenpoint, which maintains a historic Polish presence even as gentrification laps northward from adjacent Williamsburg and new buildings hug the shoreline.
Led by veteran Brooklyn tour guide Norman Oder, our unique neighborhood experience will include:
- An overview of Greenpoint, from its Polish roots and rich industrial history to the surging new real estate developments reframing its neighborhood identity
- A walk past local gems including an exquisite historic district, old manufacturing plants converted into art studios or offices, some grand churches, and a charming park that memorializes the Civil War ship Monitor
- A visit to a waterfront park with sweeping views of midtown Manhattan
At the end of the tour, Norman can point you to other places worth visiting. From noon to 6 pm, various artists will be participating in Greenpoint Open Studios.
