About this Event
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This CMTE will provide participants an in-depth understanding of ethicalities that guide healthcare professionals. Through lecture and discussion-based experiences, participants will demonstrate their understanding of ethical decision-making into the work that they do through provided case scenarios. This course will also explore the conceptualization of a trauma-informed ethical decision-making model for music therapists, while providing an opportunity to explore the implementation of this model with the provided case studies. This 3.5-hour course may earn music therapy professionals up to 3 CMTE credits that count towards the ethics requirement.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Verbalize how the Code of Ethics applies to the field of music therapy. (CBMT, V. B. 2)
- Comprehend and demonstrate knowledge and mastery of ethical decision making models through case scenario exploration. (CBMT, V. B. 9)
- Describe the maintenance and necessity of professional boundaries for competent and ethical music therapy practice. (CBMT, V. B. 10)
- Integrate one’s understanding of current research and community needs into ethical decision making practices. (CBMT, V. A. 1-2; V. B. 11-12)
COURSE PREREQUISITES:
No prerequisites necessary. Open to professional music therapists and music therapy students. Current MT-BC status required to earn continuing education ethics credits.
“Exploring a Trauma-Informed Ethical Decision-Making Framework” is approved by the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT) for 3 credits. Kansas City Metro Music Therapists, Approved Provider #P-096, maintains responsibility for program quality and adherence to CBMT policies and criteria.
This course may be cancelled due to inclement weather or presenter illness. In the event the course is cancelled, pre-registered participants will be notified and the course will be rescheduled. Refunds will be issued if the rescheduled date is unavailable to the participant. KCMMT reserves the right to grant refunds on a case-by-case basis.
PARKING:
Attendees will need to anticipate paying for parking (options at less than $2 per hour at metered parking lot nearby the Conservatory). KCMMT is working to find an option to cover parking costs for attendees, and if a solution is found, more information will later be sent on this.
