Explore The Outdoors Family Fair

Join Alison Mariella Désir at the Explore the Outdoors Family Fair, a free community event featuring organizations of all kinds who are advocating for reclamation of outdoor spaces for underrepresented communities. Come learn more about engaging with nature in fun and healthy ways! There will be games, treats, workshops and interactive opportunities for people of all ages! Plus, you’ll hear from the host and some of the outdoor enthusiasts featured in the Cascade PBS series “Out & Back with Alison Mariella Désir”.

ABOUT THE SERIES:

Alison Mariella Désir explores the Pacific Northwest with the change-makers who are reclaiming space in the outdoors and creating opportunities for BIPOC communities in the region to find joy and healing. Representation and diverse perspectives have long been missing from imagery and conversations concerning the outdoors due to historical and present racism and discrimination. In this season, Alison examines the particular struggles historically and presently that prevent opportunities for marginalized communities to get outdoors and partake in activities that have been fiercely guarded by membership fees, expensive equipment, land restrictions and discriminatory rules and regulations.
