Explore Format: Detours with Kayleigh Kane

Detours is a long form improv format, originally developed by People of Earth at iO Chicago. The format focuses on a single scene, exploring all the possible directions it could take over the course of the set. In this workshop, we will take this format for a test drive, with a spotlight on spontaneity, taking initiative, and following the fun.

Prerequisite: Prerequisite: 301 or equivalent.

Kayleigh Kane (she/her/hers) is a Boston-based multi-disciplinary artist whose practice includes acting, comedy, creative movement, staged intimacy, improvisation, and other theatre-making. She is a Company Member at Entropy Theatre, and has been a resident cast member at ImprovBoston, performing on Family Show, Face Off, Harold Night, and the National Touring Company. She has also performed at the Del Close Marathon (NYC), the Last Vegas Improv Festival, and the Big Pond Improv Festival.

In her teaching, she uses a combination of established techniques and original exercises, and strives to maintain an environment of respect, flexibility, and constant communication. She is a strong advocate for consent and mental wellness, and she applies these values in every rehearsal and classroom. She will also show you a picture of her dog if you ask.

ImprovBoston Comedy School Tuition is fully refundable up to 2 business days before the start of your class. Within 2 business days of the start of the class, or once the class has started, REGISTRATION IS NON REFUNDABLE AND NON TRANSFERABLE.

In the event of a cancellation due to low student enrollment, students may be offered placement in another section. If the student cannot be placed in another section, a refund may be offered, or credit kept on file for a future class.

Only registered students will be allowed in the class. Due to our limited class sizes, class placement is not guaranteed until payment has been received in full. Further, the ImprovBoston Comedy School reserves the right to accept or deny any individual's application.

All Students attending the ImprovBoston Comedy School are REQUIRED to be Fully Vaccinated. We will require proof of vaccination on the first day of class.
