This workshop is split into two sessions.Saturday March 25, 2023, 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Saturday April 1, 2023, 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM
During the first session participants will be introduced to experimental filmmaking and the 16mm Bolex camera. Participants will be hands on with the equipment learning about the camera’s features, its lenses and exposure calculation. At the end of the first class participants will be given 100’ of 16mm black & white film, as well participants will reserve a Bolex camera with its accessories for a 24 hour period. Participants need to have their films shot before 1:00 PM on Saturday April 1.
During the second session participants will be introduced to IFCO’s darkroom and black & white film development through developing their exposed roll of 16mm black & white film.

Ottawa Filmmaker, Cooper (Roger Wilson)
Cooper is an Ottawa-based media artist, their body of work includes films, HD videos, installations, and live performances.
Cooper’s practice is heavily based on the technical aspects of the filmmaking process and they create their films using an array of techniques, including stop-motion, 2D & 3D animation, optical printing, film processing, and cinematography. Thematically Cooper’s films are a reflection of their memories and are drawn from life experiences.
Cooper is an award-winning artist and their work has been presented at festivals and art galleries across Canada and internationally.
