Take part in playful, experimental exercises that will help you to find out about materials and enjoy drawing as a process in itself.
About this Event

This course invites students to explore a wide range of materials and approaches for drawing. We will work expressively and playfully with different drawing tools/materials including sticks, feathers, wire, rubbers, inks, felt pens, collage, pencils and charcoal. Working from observation we will use different strategies that focus on training the eyes to see in new ways, considering composition, line, tone, proportion, perspective and colour. We will look to artists both current and historic for inspiration. For two sessions we will go out of the studio and draw on location, either indoors or outdoor depending on the weather.

Suitable for all levels including beginners. *Please note: this course is suitable for new students as well as those who have completed the autumn term Experimental Drawing course. Rachel will be introducing new exercises and content.

All materials are provided for sessions that take place in the studio. Students will need sketchbooks and some portable drawing materials when we go out and draw on location. Advice will be given on what to buy at the start of the course.

Student comment about the tutor: 'I’ve really enjoyed your drawing course this term. As a self-taught beginner, I’ve never had chance to explore techniques or other materials or drawing styles, so it’s been great to try out new things with your thoughtful guidance. I’ve really appreciated how much thought and care you put into the sessions, and I can see my own drawing at home has developed and I’m enjoying a wider range of expression in my own sketch pad.'
