Experimental Botanical Dye Workshop
About this Event
In celebration of color, Top Hat Supply for Journeys invites you to explore seasonal flowers and plants as paints and dyes. In this hands-on workshop for all skill levels, you’ll explore how to use locally grown plants in a fun, creative way guided by local dyers Lindsey Stuart and Michelle Polizzi.
From plant extractions as watercolours to painting with botanical dye on canvas, and learning how to bundle dye silk pillowcases with flowers. You will learn how to create dyes from botanicals to dye fabrics.
A few things covered in the workshop:
• Which plants create which colors – and how to unlock their most vibrant hues
• how to change the PH of the dyes to extend the palette of the plants
• The supplies needed to get started
All materials provided. No experience with botanical dyeing necessary.
Each participant will bring home a silk dyed pillowcase, a painted canvas and a watercolor painting.
Water bottles + snacks welcome. Please arrive at 5pm to get started.
Please do not wear any fragrance.
