Come and visit Glenfield Library to explore an exhibition of traditional African costume and the traditional craft of how to make and repair African drums, from Sunday 23rd to Saturday 29th March. Then, join us at 2pm, Saturday, 29th for a celebratory event, for music and friendship.
Immerse yourself in West African culture through drumming, vibrant costumes, and more.
“Experience the Beat of Africa" is a community festival co-hosted by Glenfield Library and Kra KoTo Kra, a West African-style drumming ensemble. The event features an African drum (Djembe) performance with accompanying dancers, a drumming tutorial/workshop, a traditional costume exhibition, and a brief demonstration of drum-making.
Experience the powerful rhythms of inspired dance and learn about the symbolic and historical significance of Africa. Most importantly, practise the African drumming principle of 'everyone gathering together in peace.'
We invite you to come and share this day with us and enjoy the beauty of African culture!
