About this Event
During an Expedition BlueCity, you’ll immerse yourself in the circular world of BlueCity in just one afternoon and take part in a guided tour of the former subtropical swimming paradise. Here, you can smell, taste, and see how the circular economy comes to life at BlueCity. The tour is led by Emma van der Leest, founder of the BlueCity Lab, the world’s first circular-built biolab.
GIY Tempeh workshop
The tour won’t just introduce you to inspiring circular-economy examples from BlueCity entrepreneurs; you’ll also get hands-on yourself. It concludes in the BlueCity Lab, where fungi expert and biotechnologist Nick van Biezen - also known as the “Funguy” - will teach you how to grow your own tempeh.
Tempeh is an ancient, traditional soy product originating from Indonesia. Through a controlled fermentation process, the mycelium of the starter culture binds the beans together, creating tempeh: a versatile, nutritious bean cake with countless ways to use it in your kitchen, both within and beyond Indonesian cuisine.
In this workshop, Nick will guide you step by step in making your own tempeh with a local twist. You’ll go home with your very own homemade tempeh-to-be.
Please note: the language of instruction during this workshop is English.
