About this Event
This powerful exhibit brings you face to face with the human cost of war. Through 15 stark, intimate portraits and personal testimonies, Rajcová reveals the experiences of Ukrainians who fled the Russian invasion — women, men, and children whose eyes still hold the memories of loss, fear, and survival.
Every image in EXODUS.REPORT tells a story: a train station farewell, the echo of sirens, the anxiety of crossing borders, the resilience of those who refused to lose hope. The stark visual clarity of Rajcová’s portraits draws viewers into the private worlds of these individuals, making their sorrow and determination palpable.
The opening reception will feature remarks by the artist and provide a chance to stand before these striking images, listen to the stories they hold, and reflect on the strength and dignity of people forced into exile.
Jana Rajcová is a Bratislava-based documentary photographer and journalist known for her humanistic approach to visual storytelling. She holds a Master’s degree in Documentary Photography and Photojournalism from the University of Westminster in London, UK, where she developed her focus on photography as a vehicle for empathy and social change.
Her career has centered on themes of humanity, faith, displacement, and the environment, and her work has been exhibited in New York, London, Bratislava, and other Slovak cities. In 2023, her project Exodus.Report was short-listed for the Felix Schoeller German Peace Prize for Photography, and in 2024 it was awarded the Open Society Foundation’s Journalism Prize for its powerful storytelling
Rajcová believes that every photograph should “carry a meaningful message” and sees the camera as both a tool of discovery and an instrument of change, aiming to restore dignity to those who have endured war and displacement.
